Storm
Exun International Hackathon • Runners-up
The Problem
Creative brainstorming sessions often lose momentum and ideas due to poor collaboration tools that don't support real-time interaction and idea synthesis. Traditional brainstorming apps lack the visual, collaborative elements that make in-person sessions effective.
Challenge
Create a collaborative ideation platform that could support multiple simultaneous users with real-time cursors, prevent conflicts during collaboration, and use AI to intelligently summarize and organize ideas - all within a 48-hour hackathon timeframe.
Solution
We created Storm, a graphical brainstorming platform that combines real-time P2P collaboration with AI-powered idea synthesis. The platform enables multiple users to brainstorm visually with live cursors, while MistralAI continuously analyzes the session to provide summaries, resolve conflicts, and suggest idea connections using advanced context understanding.
Process
- Concept & Architecture (Hour 1-8): Defined collaborative brainstorming requirements and designed P2P socket architecture for real-time cursor sharing and idea synchronization.
- Real-time Collaboration (Hour 8-28): Built P2P socket system for live cursors and simultaneous editing. Implemented conflict detection and prevention mechanisms for collaborative editing.
- AI Integration (Hour 28-40): Integrated MistralAI with sliding context window for intelligent idea summarization. Implemented few-shot sampling for conflict resolution suggestions.
- Polish & Demo (Hour 40-48): Refined user experience and prepared compelling demonstration showcasing real-time collaboration and AI-powered idea synthesis.
Challenges Overcome
- Real-time Synchronization: Implemented efficient P2P socket architecture that minimized latency while ensuring all participants stayed synchronized during active brainstorming
- Collaborative Conflicts: Used MistralAI with few-shot sampling to intelligently detect and resolve conflicting ideas, providing suggestions rather than forcing decisions
- Context Management: Implemented sliding context window to maintain relevant conversation history for AI analysis while managing computational resources
Impact & Results
- Hackathon Performance: International competition → Runners-up position (Top recognition from international judges)
- Collaboration Quality: Static brainstorming tools → Real-time multi-user interaction (Live cursor and idea sharing)
- Idea Organization: Manual summarization → AI-powered synthesis (Intelligent conflict resolution)
- Team Coordination: Individual hackathon project → Successfully led team of 3 (Effective leadership under pressure)
